OVI-Enschede, along with our partners Project Service Lichtmasten and Philips, had the pleasure of illuminating the grounds of the new Jumbo distribution center in Nieuwegein. The new distribution center opened its doors on October 5, 2020.
More than 40 12-meter-high light poles have been installed on the site. In addition to the light poles, 18 camera poles have also been installed.

Most sustainably designed building in the world
Jumbo achieved the highest possible BREEAM design certificate for its new building in Nieuwegein, making it the most sustainably designed building in the world, according to BREEAM. To qualify for this sustainability certification, Jumbo maximized the use of sustainable and energy-efficient building materials and lighting. Furthermore, the new building is equipped with approximately 13,500 solar panels and a system that generates so much heat that traditional heating is unnecessary. Rainwater is also collected and reused.
The building’s exterior and surroundings have been ecologically designed, including bee nests and special shell containers, nesting nests, and a nesting wall for birds. Nieuwegein’s central location also means that distances to stores and regional distribution centers will be relatively shorter than before. This naturally contributes to reducing CO2 emissions. These sustainability aspects are part of Jumbo ‘s sustainability plans for climate-conscious and future-proof construction and distribution.
